The city of Asheville and Buncombe County, North Carolina, are known as a center for the arts, crafts, music, dance, and nature. This Western NC community takes special pride in its focus on local sustainable agriculture, with many farms, farmer’s markets and restaurants featuring locally produced food. Asheville is a draw to both young people and retirees, many of whom are creative entrepreneurs and interested in service to the larger community.

Azalea Mountain School is the only private school in Asheville offering a full curriculum inspired by Waldorf Education.  All of our teachers have completed or are in the process of completing recognized Waldorf teacher education programs. Azalea Mountain School has attracted families in Australia, Columbia, Ireland and Costa Rica, as well as from other parts of the USA.
